For many businesses, location is extremely important. Whether you need to be close to your customer base, close to your employees, or somewhere with the infrastructure capable of supporting your business, more likely than not location is important. This is why it’s a good idea to prepare a bit before you move your business. At Tomarchio Enterprises, we’ve been in the commercial real estate industry for several years and wanted to talk about how you can prepare your business for a commercial property move.
Ensure You’ve Found the Right Location
There’s nothing worse than going through a business relocation, and then you find out the new spot isn’t right for you. We hear about it all of the time. Business owners are in a rush to get to their new spot and overlook something within the lease or don’t fully understand the area they’re moving to. You can’t know too much about your new location. You should try to learn as much as you possibly can, something you can do by consulting with an experienced Maryland commercial real estate agency.
Craft a Timeline
One of the first things you should do when considering a move for your business is craft a timeline. Within it, you should include a complete outline for when you want to be moved by and when different parts of your business will be packed up. Many businesses continue to operate all the way up until just before they’re ready to move, but even if that’s something you plan on doing, you should still pack up everything you possibly can. Also, be sure to consider any services you may use at your business and schedule to have them switched over to your new location.
Have a Budget
Moving can be a large expense for a business, which is why it is so important to have a budget and stick to it. Plan out how the move will go and figure out the costs associated with each step. If your business will experience downtime as a result of the move, you should consider factoring that into costs associated with lost revenue.
Don’t Forget Anything!
There can be a lot of things you overlook during a move. Whether you leave a physical item behind at your previous location, or forget to update your address on Google, there is so much that needs to be done. Making a checklist of everything that needs to be done can be a great way to prevent smaller things from slipping through the cracks.
